  • Who can benefit? Individuals moving their tax residence to Italy and earning income abroad.
  • Key Benefit: A flat tax of €100,000 annually replaces standard income taxes on foreign income. (Increases to €200,000 for relocations after August 10, 2024.)
  • Extendable to Family: Eligible family members can opt in for €25,000 per year per person.
  • Duration: The regime lasts up to 15 years.

How to Apply:

  1. Declare in your tax return for the year of relocation or the following year.
  2. Optionally request confirmation of eligibility from the tax authority.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Not a resident of Italy for at least 9 of the last 10 years.
  • Must provide personal details, tax history, and supporting documents.

Why Italy?
Many see Italy as desirable from a lifestyle perspective, offering a mix of culture, natural beauty, and culinary excellence.

From a tax perspective, the appeal lies in Italy’s Lump Sum Tax Regime, introduced in 2016. This regime simplifies taxation for foreign income, allowing retirees and other new residents to enjoy a more predictable and favorable tax environment.
